Hey Andy,
I agree. The problem I believe is that many people who call themselves IAs are the ones who may not be designing in the trues sense of the word. I've come across more people who simply piece boxes and arrows together by copying other people's work or simply following best practices.

True design is creative and innovative. Real IAs should be creating solutions and introducing business betterment by leveraging new technologies and trying to invent new methods that add value to the client, the IA community and most of all, the end user.

Thanks for your comment.

I tend to agree with you as well... I think wireframes are at the very least a base for any design

Thanks for your feedback Ryan and yes, you are absolutely right regarding the scenarios you stated. While MK does have this experience issue, it's not the only game that does. I spoke with Bryce Johnson and asked him to convey to the game makers about some things I don't like about the game. One thing I mentioned was that I think the font is all wrong and it's definitely too small to read in many cases; and yes I believe this takes away from the experience as I miss some online challengers, while trying to read stats or game messages that are just not readable. I believe if MK (and many other games out there) would improve these little things which are really not so "little" their rating of 85% approval rating might be a little higher.
I also don't like the unmoderated rooms and deceptive cheats allowed online, but again, like many other games, this is something we'll have to wait and see if they'll change.

A UX Issue in Mortal Kombat,

I just want the record to state a glaring UX issue in the single player story mode.

Cut scenes can not be replayed or paused, if your phone rings durring one of them consider it missed unless replayed.

For such a well thought out title I was baffled when I missed 2 entire scenes to friends dropping by and phone calls.

What a thorough test - thanks for sharing that!

I guess the only caveat is that we need to use the median number between mealsnaps high and low estimates. That spread might get rather wide for some meals, especially for those of us that are going to be using it initially as a way develop a good food diary to shame ourselves into losing some weight.

I'll download it now and see how it handles significantly larger calorie numbers. If I notice any smoke emanating from the iPhone, I'll assume that anything in the 1000+ range is more difficult to compute. :)

I think your example of T.D. on line banking is a good one. I have been using the T.D. on line banking for a limited time, and every time I go to the site I am astonished that it appears antiquated and un-user friendly. It should be so simple to maneuver around, but it is not. Moreover, it appears to be a "live", poorly designed pamphlet that you might get in the mail and toss.

It might be a consideration for good designers to seek out sites like this, contact the appropriate people and give them direction on how to put some "wow" into their sites, and along the way to help them make visiting their sites a more enjoyable experience?

In other words, see these poorly designed sites as opportunities and potential clients. I am certain that the TD could benefit greatly from your terrific design skills!

I like what you are saying here. Every design must be taken on an individual basis. I think the problem with many designers are that they try to apply the same best practices to every application just because they're all for a mobile platform.
Good article.
